Men's Rustic Getaway - June 4-6, 2010 - Online Registration Form

Our third annual Men's Rustic Getaway is scheduled for the first weekend in June at Chataway Lakes Resort (near Merritt, BC). It's a rustic weekend designed for today's urban man - full of testosterone filled activities like fishing, boat racing, fire building, and board gaming. You can register for this year's getaway beginning on Sunday, April 25. Here's what you can expect from this year's event:

  • Great food, including our classic steak dinner... with ribs for an appitzer no less. No too stabby for a rustic meal. Bring a hefty appetite and enough patience and finesse to eat with plastic cutlery.
  • Rustic camping... pack plenty of warm clothes and raingear because the only thing that will heat you during the weekend is the sun and the campfire. You'll also want to bring your sleeping bag (to put on top of the mattresses in the cabins), a camping chair, coffee thermos, and any other outdoor gadgets that you might want to play with.
  • NEW activities... this year, we'll be featuring boat races that will mos t likely end with someone getting wet. We'll also have board games availabl e for the strategically-minded, fishing tutorials for those that would like to learn from our resident expert, and photography lessons given by our most photogenic men.
  • Classic fishing derby... it'll begin at 1 PM on Saturday and prizes will be awarded to the greatest and most humble fisherman.
  • Campfire musings... with nothing to distract us, our times around the fire are always meaningful and entertaining.

The Getaway begins on Friday at 8:00 PM and continues until Sunday afternoon. The cost is $110 which includes everything you need for the weekend (food, lodging, boat rentals). If you'd like to get a jump on the weekend by staying the night on Thursday, you can do this for just and additional $25. How many guys will be going?

Our goal for this year is to have 30 guys up for the weekend. We have secured 8 cabins (roughly 4 guys per cabin).

I've never been to Chataway Lakes. What's it like?

It's rustic. The cabins have a small stove for overnight heating and there is running hose water, but TSN is only a dream. A generator is run in the evening for those who want to take warm showers ($2 each), but this hasn't been the trend in year's past. The lake is trout-fed and offers pretty lively fishing for those inclined. Paddle boats or electric motors are the only options. We'll  have a group campfire going in the evening (maybe all day too) which serves as the central hub for the weekend. 

I'm thinking of inviting my friend, but I want to know how churchy this is going to be.

There is no scheduled teaching for the weekend, so you don't need to prepare your friend for an evangelistic talk of any kind. There will certainly be side conversations involving the Christian faith, but this is not the prime objective for the weekend. This is a great event to invite men to who have not yet made a faith decision for Jesus.
